Who am I
Here's what I know.
I'm Emrah Istrefi, a diaspora born, third culture Balkan who grew up in Australia, and right now I'm on a pilgrimage to the places my family came from, reclaiming my grandmother's practices, the gravesites, the streets where we once lived, the lost tongue back in my mouth and the shade of a family tree I've never stood in.
I'm a documenter and psycho-cartographer, I keep memory in the land, in trees, abandoned buildings, a window frame holding what was witnessed. I've either been behind a camera or buried in a journal with pen in hand my whole life, and this home is where all of it survives.
I'm a maker before I'm anything. I write most days, about most things, I make music, I shoot photos and film, and I build tools I need when I need them.
I observe the world through anthropology, I look to the Stoics, the archetypes and divination for my inner work. What I want most is roots and the records documented enough that my family's story is preserved and no longer endangered.
